At CodeDay Labs, our mission is to provide students with real-world software development experience through contributions to open-source projects. You, as the Program Lead for the Open Source Partnerships Team, play a key role in shaping our students' real-world development experiences. Your responsibilities include developing relationships with open-source maintainers, helping to refine their documentation and processes, and selecting suitable projects for student involvement. Your efforts ensure that our collaborations are effective and meaningful.
Short-term Goals:
- Issue Sourcing Goals: Ensure that, in addition to the assigned essential issues, you identify 5-10 additional suitable issues from open-source projects. This should be done at least two weeks prior to each session.
- Identify Repositories: Focus on identifying repositories that have excellent documentation, clear tagging, and active maintainers.
Long-term Goals:
- Building Quality Connections with Maintainers: Our long-term goal is to develop strong relationships with the maintainers of open-source projects, making the presence of CodeDay Labs known. Once maintainers recognize the involvement of our students, we can request that specific issues be assigned to them, facilitating targeted learning and contribution.
- Building Strategic Partnerships with Companies: Our goal is to establish strong connections with companies involved in open-source projects. By making CodeDay Labs a known collaborator, we aim to secure exclusive assignments for our students on specific issues, enhancing their learning and providing targeted contributions to these companies.
