Objectives for Kickoff Call:
- Get to know your students (background, interests in CS, and more)
- Present your vision for the project, and get student feedback
- Agree on a project scope: what will/won't your students do
- Set guidelines for task management and check-ins (scrum, etc)
- Determine what background students are entering with, and who needs what help
Suggested Agenda:
- Introduce yourself, including your company, title, what you work on, your career path, and how you got interested in technology.
- Ask each mentee to introduce themselves, including their interests in technology (what have they enjoyed most in their CS classes?) and why they chose this project. What do they want to learn?
- Share your project plan with the students.
- Ask your students to share their vision of the final product. (What will it look like? Who will use it?)
- Present options for tech stack, and ask for feedback.
- Ask students for initial ideas on how to architect this project, and provide your feedback.
- Share what system (e.g. agile/scrum) and tool (e.g. Trello, Jira) you will be using for project management.
- Set next steps, including students entering tasks into the project management system, and which tasks would be appropriate to start with. Explain what you hope to see by the next meeting.
