Hi X,
Hope all is well with you and your family during lock down. I hope you are also managing the big disruption for your work as well. In the past, we discussed expanding additional opportunities for HS and college students interested in tech and computer science.
Due to the lockdown, the number of traditional summer opportunities for students has seen a drastic decline. I am collaborating with CodeDay, an organization that I have worked with during my time as TEALS founder for many years. CodeDay have been running virtual summer code camps called CodeLab for 3,700+ HS students across the country over the past 3 summers. The lockdown is causing the number students applicants and schools to increase dramatically and they are looking for sponsors to help them meet those needs. In addition, my new venture, Mentors in Tech (MinT) is collaborating with CodeDay to expand the program to college students.
CodeLab is a proven model that have attracted a diverse set of students at scale, 68% of whom are Underrepresented in tech (Women/Non-Binary/Low-Income/Black/Latinx/Native American), ~40% Free/Reduced Lunch, and 80%+ have no previous coding experience.
Since there's always substantially more applicants than capacity, let me know if you or a partner funder are interested in sponsoring a block of students ($200 per student) and guarantee their spots in the program. This sponsorship will enable us to further serve a larger set of students especially those with demonstrated need.
